What are the options for garden
hose reels and where will you find the best hedge reels advice?
There are many garden reel options available today and it can be
quite confusing to decide which type, style, brand, etc. suits your needs. In
this article, I will offer my 20 years of experience in the hose reels business
so that you can give you the best hose reel advice to get the best information
when making your purchase.
There are many aspects to consider when selecting a garden reel for your special needs. Some of these are
briefly listed below and will be covered in more detail in future articles.
Some of these are very obvious but there are some things that many people do
not take into consideration when finding the right reel. Hose length, hose
diameter (internal and external), water pressure, hose length requirement (vs.
whether the hose capacity is different reels, construction material (steel or
plastic), method of winding the hose (Hand crank or spring rewind) and the
major aspect that many people fall on is the position of the reel.
Where will you position your garden reel pipe?
So you are considering buying a hose reel for your garden. Maybe
you have gone through some big DYI or hardware stores or even checked some
sites on the internet and maybe a little confused about what kind of shopping
you should do and the important thing is that you In what situation are you
taking it?
Let's first look at that amazing real estate adage, status,
status, status as a starting point. There is a need to consider carefully where
you are going to set up / mount your garden. What practical hose will you need
relative to where you install it? Which area of the garden or lawn do you
want to cover effectively with your reel?
Is your current inlet water supply (faucet/tap) limiting you to
where you can install/mount your garden hose? The opportunity was arbitrarily
determined by the manufacturer of your home or previous owner for use on the
road with a garden hose for the condition of your water supply (tap/tap), or
if you have a set of plans then Chances are - let's face it, the garden/lawn
area was either not predetermined or has changed.
So if you are considering the length of the hose on one type of
reel, you should not get the coverage you need - what is the solution?
If installing/growing your garden reel in/near your water supply
(tap/tap) will not give you the most desired coverage, then there are
solutions.
Example - You may have 2, 3 or more water supply points around
your house - usually most homes have at least 2 - one in front and one behind
the house. These outlets may not be in the best position to water your garden -
I know mine is not and I designed my house !!!
Example 2 - I have a water supply (tap/tap) about 3 meters (3
feet) from the corner of the house towards the south-front of my house. There
is no garden in that part of the south part of the house - there are gardens on
the west side!!!
So mounting a hose reel right next to that outlet means I'm
pulling the hose around a corner - not very practical or sensible right?
So the solution for me was that along the ground, I had some
poly water pipe out of the ground (I finally pulled and buried my pavers) in a
place on the west side of the house, where the garden is. Seems logical, though
I didn't even think of it in the first place !!
I fitted a riser and an on / off valve and then installed
my garden reel in
the best possible condition to achieve the best capacity for me and the least
obstacles. This is easy and cheap to do - you don't need to pay a plumber for
this - some poly pipes, some fittings and work is done!!
Last but not least in this section of your garden hose reel
condition is how to install/mount your garden hose reel when you have decided
where you need/need it. Should a garden reel provide you with efficiency? - If
not then you can use the wheel rim of an old car.
Tip - Make sure you mount the reel at a suitable
"ergonomic" height - a height that you won't have to bend or reach up
to operate it. Take some time to carefully measure the installation / mounting
position before installing a reel for a wall or post or another fixing. The
ideal condition for the hose is that it tells the reel about the height of your
hip (this is supposed to be the hand crank reel centered with the crank reel
which should be the case - for spring rewind reels this is a given Will go.).
